TANZANIA IS AFRICA AT ITS MOST ICONIC. THREE OF AFRICA’S 7 NATURAL WONDERS, 7 WORLD HERITAGE SITES AND SO MUCH MORE TO DISCOVER
Tanzania offers a breath-taking array of holiday options, many remain underutilised and offer an exclusivity very hard to find in other world-class destinations. Footloose have put together a range of tours offering new ways to explore the famous gems and ground-breaking forays into the lesser-known alternatives.
You can see some examples of the tours and safaris in Tanzania we offer below. However, these are designed to give you just a taste of what we can offer.
Besides the unique nature of our tours, our ground team has a wealth of experience of the country and our own David & Tara Guthrie are themselves in daily contact with the team and David still takes some of the tours as does Masa. The Tanzanian ground operation was set up by David Guthrie of Footloose in 1995 together with Masoud Kilanga. From here, the operation grew from mobile camping all over Tanzania to the building of semi-permanent and later permanent safari camps in the remotest areas of the best parks throughout Tanzania. There is little that the team don’t know about this fascinating country. Our Tanzanian specialists are guides, lodge managers, and tour planners living in country and with their finger on the safari pulse every day.
The ethos of our Tanzanian operation has always been to put something back and at its heart is Tanzania’s wildlife and its conservation. A large portion of our profits go back into projects to help maintain Tanzania’s stunning wildlife and the environment in which it lives. Our work with the people and wildlife of Tanzania was formalised in the setting up of our Care with a View initiative from where we raised funds to finance our wildlife projects and our medical support for our local villages in and around parks where we have our safari camps.
What has since developed from here, is our knowledge of other safari camps and hotels throughout the country, most of which we have stayed at and have formed partnerships with the best of these. What has naturally evolved over recent years is our work as a DMC in Tanzania.
Below are some examples of the kind of safari camps and accommodation our clients can stay in. However, there are lots more options available, and after we discover your likes and dislikes, we’ll help you find the perfect bolthole for your Tanzania escape.
Outside of the main (Masika) rains in April & May, Tanzania is open for business and at its brilliant best, for the entire rest of the year. It is, of course, true that one particular park or event may be better in one season over another, but there will always be more than enough fabulous reasons to go any month from June to March.

David founded the Tanzanian operation 23 years ago along with his great friend Masa. Ever the nomad, he still takes the odd tour, but most likely you will bump into him at one of the bush properties or, perhaps, over in UK helping Footloose at one of our events.
