Based by the shores of the beautiful Lake Ullswater, we are perfectly positioned to walk the surrounding fells looking for red deer stags gathered to rut. The tours which take place in the autumn, are timed to catch the magnificent animals at the height of their mating season, when stags will likely be chasing each other and rounding up females with whom to mate. The stunning scenery and the melancholy bellow off the testosterone filled males creates a special atmosphere – a real walking with wildlife experience.
With a maximum group size of four, we have a great chance to watch the deer without disturbing them, and hopefully, witness a battle between competing stags. The tour is run from a cottage shared by the group, and where we will take our breakfast. The local pub is the ideal place to enjoy dinner and share tales.
1 – 2 NIGHTS

£150 PER PERSON SHARING 2 Nights
We meet at 2 pm in the Howtown Hotel and head off to our cottage to drop bags and prepare to stride out onto the fells. This afternoon we will walk for three hours look for gathered deer and taking in the beautiful views across the fells or the lake. How far we walk depends on deer sightings and opportunities we get to watch them. Returning to the cottage around dusk, we then head off to the pub for dinner (not included) and a chance to go through what we saw in the afternoon. An early night back at the cottage is advisable.
Up at the crack of dawn with a cup of tea to help us on our way, we head off into the hills once more in search of the red deer. This will be a longer walk of up to five hours and we’ll carry snacks in our daysacks to keep us going. Again, we’ll be looking for good sightings and photo opportunities as the stags protect their harems and battling other suitors. Returning to the cottage in the late morning, we’ll prepare a hearty brunch for everyone, after which those staying for a single night will depart and those staying can relax before the afternoon walk.
