Our candidate for the ultimate safari, the Glorious Tanzania tour includes time in three entirely different parks, viewed from unique vantage points and accommodation. It offers the opportunity to see many of the great spectacles, including the Serengeti migration, from remote and brilliant camps. It includes chances to travel on foot, by boat and by safari vehicle in search of incredible wildlife, starting on the shores of one of the world’s great lakes and finishing on the Indian Ocean coast. This is a breathtaking safari, showcasing Tanzania at its iconic best.
On arrival at Dar es Salaam international airport, you’ll be met by a representative from A Tent with a view and transferred to Best Western Plus Colosseum hotel (CBD) in town.
After an early breakfast, transfer to the airport for your 10:10am flight to Mwanza. On arrival, you’ll be met by your guide and then transferred by road to Little Okavango camp, so-called because of its proximity to narrow water channels full of tall Papyrus grasses which feed down to the expanse of Lake Victoria. The driving will take you about 2 hours passing through the unusual city of Mwanza known as the “Rock City”, due to its huge boulders scattered across the wider landscape. After lunch and a rest, enjoy a gentle canoe ride on the waterways around Victoria Island, and out onto the Lake itself (Breakast, Lunch and Dinner)
This morning, drive to a local fishing village and meet the Sukuma tribe who have fished these waters for generations. Your local guide will explain all about life on this great lake as you walk around the village. The locals love to meet new people too. Return to camp and after lunch, head back out on the canoes, this time stopping off at the amazing Little Okavango Tower set on an island surrounded by the waters of Lake Victoria. From here, explore each deck – the Weaver deck, Lake Deck and Serengeti Deck – each with extraordinary views of birds, lake & park. Enjoy a sundowner this evening at the tower before returning to camp for dinner under the stars by the camp fire. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner)
After breakfast, leave the camp for a game drive in the world-famous Serengeti national park, finishing at your fantastic Bush Rover migration camp. From December through March, the Bush Rover suites are situated in the south east of Serengeti in Kusini, from late May to mid-July, the camp is on a private site close to the Grumeti river in the western corridor of Serengeti and from mid-July through October, the Bush Rovers are set up at a fantastic site on the Mara river close to a wildebeest crossing point but away from the crowds.
The Bush Rover suites are full working Land Rovers which open out into luxurious accommodation complete with flush toilet, shower and bath. Each suite has solar powered lights and hot water. Meals are served in a comfortable dining mess tent & bar area. This exclusive camp offers a private, unique and exclusive way to experience perhaps the greatest wildlife spectacle on earth.
Dinner and overnight at the Bush Rover migration camp. (Breakfast, packed lunch and dinner)
DAY 5 & 6
Awake early to explore and to marvel at the greatest safari spectacle in the world – the great wildebeest migration. Tanzania is blessed with an incredible array of safari experiences, but the Serengeti, with its magnificent migrating herds, and huge population of predators, is unbeatable. Return to your Bush Rover camp before dark and sit atop your Bush Rover suite elevated balcony and survey the scene from a superb vantage point (breakfast, packed lunch and dinner)
After breakfast, leave the Bush Rover migration camp and game drive towards Tabora B for your transfer back to Little Okavango camp. After your late lunch, relax for the remainder of the day or take a walk around the camp to check for stunning birdlife. (breakfast, lunch and dinner)
After breakfast, transfer to Mwanza airport and fly to Dar es Salaam. On arrival, meet your driver and transfer to the domestic airport for your 16h30 flight to the UNESCO world heritage site of Selous. The flight takes 45 minutes to arrive at Matambwe airstrip where you’ll be met and transferred to lovely Sable Mountain lodge. (Breakfast and dinner)
After breakfast, head for a full day game drive and boat safari on Lake Tagalala. Enjoy your packed lunch amongst the huge hippo pods, crocs and amazing birdlife returning to the lodge at the last light. (Breakfast, packed lunch and dinner)
Awake at dawn for an early morning game drive returning to the lodge for a late breakfast. Relax by the swimming pool or visit the lodge’s tree house to see if anything is drinking at the waterhole. After lunch, visit a Maasai boma (village) with long term friend of Sable, Saita who is chief of this village. Learn about the traditional Maasai way of life including learning about rites of passage, plants used for combating malaria and teeth brushing. Enter a Maasai home and meet Saita’s family including his wife, mum and even his granny. This is an experience offered just to Sable Mountain guests and as such, one we value highly (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)
After breakfast, transfer to the airstrip for your morning flight to Dar es Salaam and drive to Saadani national park. The journey takes 4 hours to arrive at Bab’s Camp with the tower at its centre. The tower is a 20 meter high stone structure complete with two suites, a private bar & restaurant and its own fifth storey crows’ nest. This camp is set on the edge of a salt flat ecosystem, and is a favorite place for passing elephants. Relax at the crows’ nest and enjoy your private dinner on the salt flats. (Breakfast, packed lunch and dinner)
Awaken early for a foot safari on the salt flats, a great way to study the mosaic of animal prints and see the smaller flora and fauna so often missed on game drive. Return to the tower for your breakfast before relaxing and looking for wildlife from the crows’ nest. Around 3.30pm, head out for a late afternoon game drive which turns into a night drive back at the camp. Dinner at the tower restaurant. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner)
After a leisurely breakfast, transfer for a short distance to the beautiful Simply Saadani camp located on the beach. Kick off your shoes and feel the soft white sand underfoot and soak up the stunning surroundings of bush, Indian Ocean and miles of deserted beach. All rooms are situated along the beach with beautiful sea views. For these 2 days, you can do as much or as little as you wish. Relax on your room terrace, take a dip in the sea, walk the deserted beach, take a canoe ride on the creek which is great for bird lovers, visit the wildlife research centre to learn about the camp’s heavy involvement with elephant conservation or enjoy several color-coded nature walks. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner)
DAY 13 & 14
After breakfast, transfer to Dar es Salaam for your flight back home. (Breakfast and packed lunch)
