Look out over Lake Victoria, famous source of the River Nile
Indulge in some of the most famous names in wildlife and safari – the Ngorongoro crater and Serengeti national park. The Serengeti is home to the most famous wildlife spectacle on earth, the great wildebeest migration. Discover enormous Lake Victoria by boat and local canoe, made famous by John Henning Speke as the source of the Nile. Later, marvel at the elephant herds in Tarangire national park, a beautiful park full of wildlife but away from the crowds.
On arrival into Mwanza airport, you’ll be transferred 2 hours by road through Mwanza, following the eastern direction of Lake Victoria to the western Ndabaka gate of the Serengeti National Park. Just a stone’s throw from here sits Little Okavango Camp, a small and intimate camp with just 5 tented suites, the bird bar & lounge, small restaurant with the brand new Little Okavango Tower sitting on Lake Victoria. This camp was named due to the narrow water channels that surround it leading down to famous Lake Victoria. After lunch, guests can go out on the boat along the water channels before evening sets in. Otherwise, relax at the camp and recuperate after your flight before drinks and dinner at the campfire. (Lunch & dinner.)
Today, after breakfast, you’ll drive the short distance (15 minutes) to the western gate of Serengeti for a full day’s safari exploring the western corridor of this amazing wildlife park. There is an excellent chance to see lion, elephants, zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, plenty of antelope, cheetah, leopard, hyena, buffalo, fantastic birdlife and much more. You’ll be out all day with a packed lunch and return to camp in the late afternoon for dinner and overnight at Little Okavango Camp. (Breakfast, packed lunch & dinner.)
Today is all about learning about Tanzanian culture. The day will start early with a drive to the fishing village of Mwaburugu. Your guide will be Amos, who is a mine of information about this village and the way of like on Lake Victoria. After the guided tour, you’ll jump on a boat and enjoy a tour along the lake and into the narrow water channels which lead to the Little Okavango tower where you’ll stop off for a lovely brunch. Climb the 3 decks – the Weaver deck, the Lake deck and the Serengeti deck and take in the views over brunch before getting back on the boat to meander the short distance back to camp. This afternoon, there will be traditional basket weaving and cooking at the camp where families are encouraged to have a go. Relax for drinks and dinner in the evening at Little Okavango Camp. (Brunch, dinner.)
This morning will be a second chance to explore another part of the Serengeti for a full day on safari before returning to Little Okavango Camp for a final night. (Breakfast, packed lunch, dinner.)
